June 2014: Happy 5th Birthday!

We traveled to Palo Alto to say goodbye to Sunny's Great Grandpa Harrison (September 27, 1914-May 3, 2014).  My Grandpa Harrison was classy (he could rock a pink suit) - and he was a loving man, an accomplished singer, a skilled golfer,  a distinguished soldier and an incredible athlete.  He designed and built the cabin at Lake Almanor with his help from his daughters and Grandma Marie.  It's an incredibly  special place to share, especially for our 4th of July family traditions.

(Somehow a dinner became a strange photo booth session.)
Happy 5th birthday, sleepyhead!  Max packed all these balloons into his truck and snuck them into her room in the night.

The end-of-year Pre-K school "Spectacle" was also on Sunny's b-day. They performed "The Very Hungry Caterpillar" in French (that's our poire/pear, 2nd fruit from the left), and picnicked.

Birthday kids Scott and Sunny get to party together - they're our twins, separated by 39 years.
Here's our kitchen crew: helpful grandparents ready to crank out the snacks and cupcakes.  Without their help, I would have missed most of the party.  Our theme was Pirates & Merfolk, complete with a little bubble machine and ship wheels.  We made mer-tails out of tablecloths and assembled pirate eye patches and pirate boats.

It culminated in a treasure "hunt," following a dashed chalk line all over to reach the sandbox. Then everyone dug frantically to unearth a real treasure chest full of candy and gold doubloons.  Well, most kids: Sunny just oversaw the digging from beside the box, calling out, "Yeah, dig deep!  And we all get to share it when you find it!!!!"

The 3 Musketeers: Sunny, Oliva and Lola.

 Popo, Daddo, Sunny & Daddy

Max worked hard on his HUGE flag.  It's about 5' x 8'.
Then we were off to float the Molalla River for Father's Day with Grandma & Grandpa, Papa, Nauntie, Sean and Whiskey-Pig.  Whiskey had lots to say whenever the boats drifted apart and whenever her boat wasn't in the lead.  Silly water dog.

We got to play with Lucca, Arie and Jessi...and Arie was already vertical. Time flies.

Lucca looks up to Sunny like Sunny looks up to Halle.  Lucca likes to say she's "wearing Sunny clothes," though much of the hand-me-downs originally came to Sunny from Halle.  Super cute.
