The Last of 2010 - Cheers!

We explored Peacock Lane and all its decorated homes with our friend Anya. Sunny was very interested in "Santa Cocoa Claus," the inflatable Santa figure on a front lawn near the beverage stand...she'd heard people ordering hot cocoa, I think.

The Boreing sisters, the Munther brothers, Sunny and Miles on Christmas Eve.

Sunny Kalona on Christmas morning at Grandma and Grandpa's house.
Learning about accounting from Grandpa in Eureka, CA.
Sunny loves her calculators, and Grandpa's spits out "receipts!"
Enjoying the sunshine on the waterfront along Humboldt Bay in downtown Eureka.

Grandma and Nauntie joined us for the Sequoia Park Zoo, and Sunny met the "real" Sequoia, a true twin to her Sequoia-the-red-panda plush toy. Sunny was floored that Sequoia could move on her own.
Floor time with cousin Miles was just the best!

We enjoyed the Yurok "village" at Patrick's Point State Park. We love to go adventuring on Christmas Eve.
Sunny wasn't so sure about the tiny holes into the structures, but she loved looking out.
On a hiking break Sunny looked up and said, "Wow, trees. Huge. So high."

We climbed Wedding Rock with a very sleepy Sunny on my back. By the time we reached the top of nearby Ceremonial Rock, she was fast asleep.

Sunny got a new potty seat (just like the big kids), and she was immediately into sitting on it as much as possible, plus opening/closing the lid.
Nauntie and Sunny got Brazil jerseys, and Sunny got a soccer ball, shorts, and awesome light-up Puma shoes too...ready for the Lil' Kickers league in Portland soon (18 months and up, for real)!

Sunny and Daddy made some calls together after opening presents...she loves her toy phone. I think we'll break it out only for car trips and restaurants, to keep her captivated.

Prepping our traditional Christmas Rocket for blast off!
The Munthers watched from their yard as Sunny's rocket shot up and out of sight - it probably reached around 2000 feet. But we lost it in the gray skies and drizzle. That's a great excuse to find an even better one for next year.

Awaiting the arrival of our "jingle bell horse," Barney, who'd pull us around Old Town and the waterfront in a carriage - fun idea, Grandma!
"There he is, jingle bell horse, right there! Go see!"

Sunny loved leaning out so she could see Barney pulling the carriage.

Barney was a good horse, so he got a carrot for his efforts.
Daddy wowed Sunny with his bird whispering skills. And he didn't even get pooped on.
More fun times with little Miles, 5 months old on Christmas.
He loves Sunny's bumbo - the next time we see him, he'll probably be crawling. Time flies.
Sunny was pretty careful around him, and she leaned in for lots of hugs, saying, "ohhhh."
After our 8-hour drive home, Sunny and I went straight to Papa and Omi's house to play with cousins Halle and Sebastian, and to see Jessi and Dean. It was lots of fun - Sunny can now actually play with them, and she took Halle's lead on this intense coloring session.
Bath time with 3 squishy babies is too much fun. And seeing Jessi smoothly kid-wrangle 3 little people was inspiring. I learn all types of parenting tips and tricks from her each time we chat.

Snow came to Portland for just a few hours this week, and Nauntie and Sunny bundled up and hustled out to make a snow man next to our frozen pond.
As soon as I'd grabbed the camera, Sunny wanted privacy while sitting on her potty (in full clothing). I'm hesitant to launch the potty training before our 5-hour flight to Hawaii in February.
New Year's Eve: Before Sunny's 7 pm bedtime tonight, we lit our fire pit and sparklers and shot off some bottle rockets in the back yard to celebrate the end of 2010 and new beginnings. We're on a winning streak - may 2011 be our best year ever! Happy New Year!
