Play-doh madness after work/school!

"Mama, I peed and spit up on Jackson Bear. He's gross." These were Sunny's opening words when I went into her room one morning. We all got REALLY sick during the first month of school. Poor Sunny, Max, Nauntie, Popo and me!!! Sunny got coughing so hard in the night that she spit up...on several occasions. Then she slept in it. Sick and sad, I tell you! We felt horrible discovering the mess in the mornings. So we dress Sunny in used clothes but bought her an $80 alpaca fur bear in Jackson Hole last year. I had to google, "cleaning barf out of alpaca fur," and learned that a weak solution of distilled white vinegar and dish soap is the way to go. The fur missing from Jackson's face is because Sunny snuggles down with him as her pillow...he looks a little freaky, but we're sure she'll love him to death. And then we'll call up that fancy shop and place a phone order...

Lovin' her baby bel snack by the elephants at the zoo right after Round 2 through the dinosaur exhibit. She's still a slightly-freaked out dinosaur fan. Drawn to her fears...just like Daddy.

Having a blast with Uncle Scott at Jon and Meagan Hensley's wedding. Sunny had a hard time understanding why Max (a groomsman) had to sit apart from her at the front table, so she made several trips over to check up on him.

The three of us went wild on the dance floor while the rest of the party was outside...with all the music and rainbow lights, Sunny had the time of her life. She busted all kinds of moves, but her favorite thing was running in a circle shrieking and laughing while we chased her. We had the whole thing to ourselves, and she ate it up. She said, "I love the dance floor, just like Nauntie."

Steppin' high and happily shrieking even higher! Our friends got a kick out of Sunny, who's quite the big girl these days with her pigtails and crazy language skills. But I think Max's dance moves...most not seen since undergrad fraternity parties...took the entertainment cake. Sunny went strong and happily till 10 p.m. - and her bedtime's 7. What a good girl.

We celebrated National Night Out with a neighborhood picnic/party in Burlingame Park.

Everyone loved Sunny's cowgirl get-up.

I rode in the wagon holding our little neighbor boy Amos during the kids/dogs parade around the park, since Sunny insisted on walking with her big-kid neighbor friends...that's Maggie from across the street on the scooter.

Sunny LOVES Maggie, and Max and I can easily remember when Maggie was Sunny's size. Wild.

Highlight of the night: receiving her free sno-kone.

It accompanied her until bedtime. She took it over to check out the police motorcycle...

She let me hold it (briefly!) while she worked on a butterfly at the Parks & Rec craft table...

And then she really got down to business with this thing, sucking down every last drop of syrup and chewing up the sugary-tasting edges of the paper cone.

Look at our big girl! She was super happy about going to school this morning. She's still napping just an hour at school (she goes down for a solid 3 at home), but she's made great friends, she asks about her teachers over the weekend, and her physical skills (like climbing ladders) have improved overnight. Plus, sitting down with other kids who eat has helped her become a better eater. She typically eats most of her school breakfast and all her school lunch. The kids seem to adore her...she gets a ton of good-byes from every age group as she marches out with me each afternoon. And she's achieved celebrity status by putting on her helmet inside amongst friends (her idea), strutting out the door, and loading into the bike carrier (all the kids on the playground plastered to the fence, watching and asking her questions. She basks in the attention and tells them all about biking, and the big hills we climb to go home, and how she loves to go fast. Then we says, "Good-bye friends," in this funny dramatic tone, while doing a double-handed political wave. Well, as dramatic as a gnome voice can sound, anyway.

Since her school is right near the river and Max and I love biking to work, we'll be scooping Sunny up and riding her straight to the "beach" on the Willamette River all summer. And the fountain/park at the base of the OHSU aerial tram is really close and fun, too...I took her on the tram and to the fountain after school on Monday. I love this summer!
Seriously, I have the cutest neice on the planet!!! Love you're story telling too JJ!!! We sure do miss you guys and the day to day of life-hugs to all of you!
