Year of the Dragon in the Land of Rainbows

We spent January in Hawaii with family, and it was incredibly special. We made memories that will last a lifetime. What a magical visit! We hope to do it again one day.

Sunny loved hanging out in her beach holes, just like last year! Only this year the hole digging came with a wee forewoman, instructions in munchkin-talk, and lots of shoveling assistance.

Hangin' out with Taipo at the Chinese New Year parade in Honolulu. It was a serendipitous reunion: Sunny's cousin Ka'ala spotted her (a year after meeting her) amongst the crowds and said, "Hey, that's Sunny." Then all the family got together for hugs, catching up, and, of course
a photo to celebrate our surprise meetup:

Rollin' with Uncle Josh and Auntie Echo!

Aboard the Hawaiian Railway train with our cousins.

Learning to hula dance with the big girls, thanks to Auntie Maka. It's the real deal! Sunny was a little intimidated, and very focused. She loved wearing the skirt that Maka, Daddy and I helped her make.

Hula practice continued at the house, on the coffee table: Sunny was quite inspired.

Exploring along the trail to Palikea. Sunny loved finding bare patches of ground to "be like Uncle Anu." She'd find a stick and start drawing maps and diagrams in the dirt. Awesome!

Endemic plants are so fun! Yeah, botany! (That's my girl!) And those fluffs she's clutching were gathered from the ground.

Yeah, nene bird (@ Bishop Museum): ride it!

Hello, Honu!

The sun sets on the Year of the Rabbit.

Sunny was so proud of her new friends, and loved counting them off: "My new friends are Mickey, Minnie, Donald Duck, Goofy and Senor Frog!"

We loved our time with Grandma and Grandpa: Hawaii is the best place to meet up.

SHAVE ICE!!! Our protocol for Sunny's shave ice attacks: Shirt off, spoon out!

Kickin' it with a juicy bit of sugar cane at the Aulani Disneyland Resort. Their free pool-side show with visiting characters is something.
